Editorial Design

Around the World Magazine

Goal

The goal of this project was to work with a team to design, name, brand, and compile a magazine for publication. The Around the World (AtW) travel magazine was the culmination of this group project and resulted in the production of a complete eighty-page magazine.

Process

The color scheme, logo, grid, signage, and branding of the magazine were developed as a group. Each individual was then assigned portions of the magazine which were then edited and compiled for publication

Role

Research, editorial grid development, branding, content editor

I designed covers for three months of the AtW magazine. Each color scheme and image was chosen to represent the publication month. Colors and font selection were in keeping with the brand of the magazine, which is youthful, fun, and vibrant.

I designed this text feature for the July issue of AtW. The layout of the article takes the reader back and forth between Corsica and Sardinia as they decide which island is the right vacation spot for them. The sidebars provide detail regarding festivals and holidays on each island, and the images depict the unique beauty of each location.

I designed these pages for the briefs section and opening section of the AtW July issue.

I found inspiration for the popcorn page, on the left, in the popcorn pages of Runner’s World and Men’s Health. While the facts, colors, and playful layout all match the AtW brand.

The letters from the readers page on the right was inspired by the white space used in W magazine, and Garden & Gun magazine. The letter pull-quotes give the page more visual interest and provide a fun pop of color
